There are indications that no fewer than 971 Nigerians were abducted across Nigeria in October 2024, just as the security operatives claim to be on top of the security situation in the country.

It also appears that 2024 has the highest record of kidnapping, killings, disappearances and violence occasioned by the activities of the state and non state actors.

Recall that a new suspected terror group “Lakurawa” emerged less than one month ago, operating within the Northwestern part of the country.

According to the October 2024 Nigeria Security Report by Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited, BSIL, being the security risk management and intelligence consulting company, it revealed security statistics of the just concluded month of October 2024.

The report panted a picture of worsening security situation, incidents, abductions and casualties across the country.

The focus on the month of October resulted from the persistent violent activities, including killings and kidnapping for ransom by bandits, terror gangs and the separatists within the month under review.

The country recorded a 51% rise in fatalities and increased abduction by 24.42%. The BEACON INTEL showed that Nigeria recorded 861 security incidents, representing 64.92% (559), attributed to security threats, 24.79% (215) consisted of security forces operations, and 4.99% (43) were attributed to safety incidents from October 1-31, 2024.

Month of October also recorded 1545 fatalities, with 67.70% attributed to civilian deaths, 25.89% to criminals/non-state armed groups (NSAGs), and 6.40% attributed to security forces and 971 individuals reportedly abducted.

The North East and North West regions accounted for 52.03% of the total incidents, whereas the South East reported the fewest incidents of 7.78%.
