The death of 684,000 Nigerians, resulting from Non Communicable Diseases, (NCDs), annually has become a source of concern by stakeholders.
The increase in the Non Communicable Diseases was also attributed to excess consumption of salt and sugar related foods.
Recall that over the years, Nigerians have been battling with infectious diseases such as cholera, Human Immuno Virus, HIV, tuberculosis among others, and this may have accounted for why Non Communicable diseases have not been given necessary attention by either government or the public.
In a two-day health summit recently organised by Gatefield in Abuja, with Adewunmi Emoruwa as a lead strategist, concerns were raised over the increasing number of deaths occasioned by non communicable diseases in Nigeria.
The summit with theme: “Beyond65: Preventing the Quiet Epidemic,” Adewunmi Emoruwa decried the impacts of non communicable diseases negatively, putting the number of victims in Nigeria to over 684,000 lives lost annually.
The rise of Non Communicable Diseases from 24 percent in 2010 to 29 percent in 2024, prompted the Gatefield to launch a new health strategy to tackle the Non Communicable Diseases’ menace in Nigeria and with a view to put life expectancy of an average Nigeria to 52 years.
