Liverpool legend, Phil Thompson has urged manager Jurgen Klopp, to make a transfer move for Barcelona attacking midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, at the end of the season.
According to Thompson, Liverpool needs Coutinho, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, to unlock strong defences for the Reds.
Coutinho, a former Liverpool player, left the UEFA Champions League holders in 2018 to join La Liga champions, Barcelona, in a £130million deal.
The Brazilian international could be available this summer transfer window, but Thompson believes the Premier League leaders should explore to bring him back to Anfield.
“I still think we need another striker and maybe a little bit more back-up for Andy Robertson,” Thompson told Sky Sports News.
“We’re not too bad at centre-back, and I would like to think we are well-blessed in midfield. Will Klopp re-sign him?
“I don’t think the Philippe Coutinho one would ever come off again, to get him back, but it’s that sort of player that we truly need to unlock packed defences.”
