Chukwudi hails the Super Eagles goaltender too.
Heartland Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu recapitulates Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa’s position as the best safe hands in Nigeria Professional Football League presently.
Ezenwa who is the skipper of the Naze Millionaires has featured in seven NPFL games without keeping any clean sheet this season, against Katsina United, Nasarawa United, Plateau United, Rivers United, Akwa United, Jigawa Golden Stars, and FC IfeanyiUbah.
Ilechukwu while addressing journalists after his team played out a 1-1 draw in Akure against Sunshine Stars on Sunday snapped ‘not true’ when queried if the absence of Super Eagles goalie Ikechukwu Ezenwa was down to his misjudged error that led to a goal in his last game against FC IfeanyiUbah.
“No no no, that’s not the truth, what happened is that Ikechukwu Ezenwa had an injury after that game (against FC IfeanyiUbah) in training, and he is the best keeper in Nigeria League,”
“I can’t deceive you, he’s the best keeper, I don’t want to judge him based on the error as soon as he gets back, he will still mount the post that’s football. Ilechukwu said.
“I remember last season he saved Heartland against Rangers, one on one(saves) is about six one on one, you can’t use one error to judge Ikechukwu Ezenwa as far as I am concerned he’s still the best,” he added.
Meanwhile, Heartland General Manager Ifeanyi Chukwudi stressed that Ezenwa’s leadership on and off the pitch is one to emulate and hopes to have him back in between the sticks as soon as he recovers from injury.
Chukwudi also urged the team to stay steadfast and shouldn’t lower their guards despite their four matches unbeaten run, having in mind that the league is a marathon and not a sprint.
Heartland will host Dakkada FC of Uyo on Wednesday in Owerri in another league tie as they strive to beat the Chosen Ones for the first time after they picked a point in Okigwe last season.
